Flourish Therapy is a private practice for mental health therapy and treats children and adolescents, as well as their parents, primarily through online therapy. While our society continues to work to dismantle the stigma around mental health, many have learned that therapy services are quite healthy and helpful. A number of kids and teens worry that because they are coming to meet with a therapist, there must be something wrong with them. Alternatively, parents are dealing with another tantrum from their three year old and they are starting to feel hopeless, as they have tried everything they can think of thus far. It is not that there is something wrong with us; it is that we are so enmeshed in our situations that we cannot see what we are missing.
It is like working on a puzzle and looking for a specific piece. You feel like you know exactly what it looks like, yet you cannot see it anywhere. You have scanned the table over and over again, searched the floor and become frustrated that you are not finding it. And now that you are frustrated, the task is far more difficult. You know the missing piece is there, but for whatever reasons, your eyes and brain scan right over it. This is how life and therapy can work together.
Whether it’s needing a helper to assist with removing the barriers to seeing the missing pieces, reevaluate if that is truly the piece you need, or learning that you’re working on the wrong area of the puzzle altogether, therapy can help find where you are in your process and how to best be a support to you. You are the expert in your life puzzle; you know the big picture of how things are working and the things that have gotten you to where you are today. It is the missing pieces that we all get stuck on. Therapy, also referred to as counseling, is about finding and using your strengths so you can continue to move forward in your own personal and unique way. My experience enables me to offer effective outpatient, individualized, psychological and counseling care. I treat a number of mental health concerns and provide a neutral ground to individuals and families. My focus is to help individuals heal, energize, become aware of their inner strengths, and flourish. I achieve this by providing a neutral safe space, truly listening to your concerns, and customizing a treatment plan. I will be there for you every step of your journey; grow from your struggles, heal from your pain, and move forward to where you want to be in your life.
I come from a cognitive behavioral perspective, meaning that in order to modify one's behaviors, we must process the emotions and thought patterns behind them. With adolescents, this is often done through Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), and for children, therapy is modified to incorporate their language of play and parents' role of providing a therapeutic and secure environment.
I started my psychotherapy practice in local children's hospitals and clinics, as well as community mental health clinics. I am an experienced provider for outpatient psychotherapy and online therapy services in pediatric hospital and clinic settings. I specialize in managing depression and anxiety, play therapy, adjustment to medical diagnosis, and pain management through use of biofeedback and self-hypnosis.
